The GCDF Credential
After completing the CDF training, career professionals who would like to receive a professional credential apply for the Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF). This credential recognizes the education and experience of those working in CDF occupations.
The Benefits of Becoming a GCDF
CDF training can enhance the skills and knowledge of individuals who work in any type of career development setting. Just a few of the benefits include:
- A national/portable credential
- A marketable certification
- Professional recognition
- Clarification of scope and practice
Thanks to their CDF training, GCDFs have acquired numerous skills and in-depth knowledge in such areas as:
- Career resources and labor market information
- Career planning processes
- Basic helping and facilitation skills
- Career development models and theories
- Informal and formal assessment approaches
- Diversity and specific population needs
- Development and maintenance of an effective career resource center
- Training others and program promotion
- Case management and referral skills
- Ethical and scope-of-practice issues
- Professional and resource portfolios
- Cutting-edge job searching
As a result, they are able to provide expert career facilitation and guidance to people who are in career transition. The work of GCDFs takes place in many different settings, including government agencies, schools and universities, nonprofit organizations, and corporate human resources departments. Many GCDFs also offer their services as independent professionals.
The Requirements to Become a GCDF
Not all who apply for the credential are accepted. Candidates must not only have successfully completed an approved 120-hour CDF training program, but they must also fulfill additional educational and experience requirements. These include:

Continuing Education Requirements
The GCDF credential is valid for a five-year period. During this time, GCDFs are required to obtain 75 hours of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) related to one of the 12 CDF Competencies. CDFs are audited at the end of each 5-year certification period by the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE).
