Career Livelihood's
CDF Training Course
Our 120-hour NCDA-approved CDF Training course satisfies the training requirement necessary to obtain a credential as a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF).
The course has two components: 20 weeks of e-learning and a 3-day, in-person workshop.
Study Materials
At the beginning of the course, I will mail you the text Facilitating Career Development by Dr. JoAnn Harris-Bowlsbey, Dr. David Reile and Dr. Barbara Suddarth; I will also send you an e-learning DVD.
The book focuses on the 12 career development competencies that are required to obtain your credential as a GCDF. Each chapter consists of learning objectives, text, learning activities, homework assignments and references. The DVD provides chapter reviews, learning activities, and exercises that check your learning.
E-Learning
The major part of the CDF Training course is conducted online. This allows you to conveniently create your weekly work schedule by logging into the course at any time of day.
Weekly time commitments will vary depending on your skills, knowledge, and the assignment. You must complete all assignments by the date listed under "course dates" in order to successfully complete the course and receive a certificate of completion.
To communicate with each other as a class, we will use Moodle, a free user-friendly distance learning platform used by businesses and universities around the world to implement elearning courses.
I also offer weekly journaling opportunities that allow you to process your learning experiences and your own career development.
Workshop
About a third of the way through the term, we will meet face-to-face in a classroom for 3 consecutive days of instruction.
My teaching method relies heavily on experiential classroom activities because I believe that students learn best by practicing new skills, expanding their comfort zones, and looking within themselves to reach their goals.
Students in my classroom can expect to participate in small groups, dyads, triads, and large groups for discussions and activities. Class size ranges between 8 and 20 students, so you will receive plenty of individual attention.
What should you bring?
In turn, please bring to class a pen, notebook, humor, energy, great attitude, openness to learning from classmates, and anything else that would predispose a group of strangers to having a fun-filled learning experience!
Certificate of Completion
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion verifying that you have completed 120 hours of CDF training.
This will give you the right to add the following to the education section of your resume:
