CDF Master Trainer

The CDF Master Trainer certification is the highest professional designation in the Career Development field.

CDF MT Requirements

To obtain the certification, candidates must demonstrate that they have acquired the following levels of education and career development experience:

  1. A masters or doctoral degree in Counseling, Career Development, Human Resources or a related field. Without this education, the Master Trainer candidate must have worked in the career field for at least 7 years.

  2. Evidence of having attended continuing education courses on career topics in the past 2 years.

  3. Certification as an NCDA CDF Instructor and evidence of membership in the NCDA CDF Instructor Registry.

  4. A description of practical experience in each of the 12 CDF competencies.

  5. Evidence of applicable career development certifications, licenses, or designations such as:

Training Experience

Candidates must also demonstrate that they have:

  1. Trained adults for a minimum of 5 years. In addition, they must also provide excellent student evaluations or a letter of recommendation from an administrator or other professional reference.

  2. Presented on a career topic at a state or national conference in the last 2 years or published an article on a career topic in a professional journal in the last 2 years.

  3. Developed a variety of materials for CDF trainings.

*If requested, candidates must also agree to produce a video of at least 30 minutes in which they provide career training on one of the 12 competencies.

Commitment

Finally, candidates must demonstrate their commitment to the field by:

  1. Providing information on at least five CDF training classes they have taught alone or in conjunction with other instructors, along with excellent evaluations.

  2. Providing a plan of how they will use the CDF Master Trainer certification.

How to Get Training

CDF MT training takes place on an as-needed basis. At present, the NCDA has scheduled the next training for Fall 2011. Application forms will be available in Spring 2011.
